The Bike Race (Cambridge Reading) The Bike Race is one of three books written and illustrated by John Prater which form part of the Language Patterns (Patterned and Natural Language) strand of Cambridge Reading for children in the Foundation stage/Primary 1 (aged 4-5). Three endearing characters feature in all three books: Hedgehog, Dragon and Bear. In The Bike Race, the three engage in an exciting race to the big tree, where surprise tactics prove a winner in the end. ‘Playtime’ dialogue combined with lively illustrations creates a story which children can easily relate to and which is certain to provoke a gasp, if not a giggle.
